Dr. Tyler Curiel, MD, MPH, is the director of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and he holds the Hays Distinguished University Chair in Targeted Cancer Therapy . Findings from his ovarian cancer research have been published recent issues of the prestigious journal Nature Medicine. When not doing research and seeing patients, Dr. Curiel enjoys his hobby of ultramarathon running, and uses his running abilities to raise money for cancer research. He has finished over 20 races of 100 miles or longer, completed the Grand Slam of Ultradistance Running in 1998, set the course record in the 125-mile Mardi Gras Ultradistance Classic in April, 2002 and still holds the Guiness world record for greatest distance dribbled with a basketball in 24 hours (108.41)
